INTERNAL MEDICINE

Internal Medicine is a nonsurgical medical specialty concerned with diseases of the internal organs in adults. At BVMA, our internists provide comprehensive primary care to individuals age 12 and older. They also provide consultations for difficult diagnostic problems. Our internists are skilled in disease prevention and in managing complex disorders of the body. They typically act as personal physicians and develop long-term relationships with their patients.

CARDIOLOGY

Cardiology is the medical specialty that focuses on treatment of diseases of the heart, blood vessels and circulation. At BVMA, our cardiologists are skilled in preventing, diagnosing and treating conditions of these organs in adults. BVMA offers several diagnostic cardiology services including echocardiography, electrocardiogram, holter monitoring, stress testing, 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring and nuclear cardiology testing. More extensive procedures, such as cardiac catheterization, are also performed by the physicians in association with Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.

DERMATOLOGY

Dermatology is the branch of medicine involving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the skin, hair and nails. It is a complicated and dynamic field of medicine with rapidly changing and expanding treatment options for multiple conditions. Dermatologists treat skin diseases such as inflammations, infections, burns, tumors, acne and some allergies. BVMA is dedicated to delivering the highest quality in dermatologic care. We offer general dermatology, dermatologic surgery and ultraviolet light therapy in a friendly and caring environment.

ENDOCRINOLOGY

Endocrinology is the study of glands and other structures that secrete hormones. At BVMA, our endocrinologist offers specialized diagnosis, treatment and consultative services for patients with hormonal, metabolic and nutritional disorders. These diseases include diabetes, thyroid, pituitary and adrenal disorders, obesity, endocrine tumors and cancers, and growth hormone deficiency. Laboratory testing and thyroid scanning are done at our facility.

BVMA employs Certified Diabetes Educators to provide individual and group classes to support self-management and training needs of adults, adolescents and the pregnant diabetic.

GASTROENTEROLOGY

Gastroenterology is the medical specialty concerned with disorders and conditions of the digestive system. This system includes the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines (colon), pancreas and liver. At BVMA, our gastroenterologists provide a full range of diagnostic, consultative and procedural services for patients with gastrointestinal disease. These diseases include colorectal cancer (screening and prevention), gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, diarrhea/constipation and hepatitis. They provide a number of procedures such as endoscopies and liver biopsies.

PULMONARY MEDICINE

Pulmonary Medicine is the specialty that is concerned with disorders of the lungs and other components of the respiratory system. At BVMA, our pulmonologists provides comprehensive care, diagnosis and treatment to patients with diseases such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, lung cancer, pneumonia and tuberculosis. The pulmonologists also perform specialized procedures to obtain samples of the lining of the chest wall or of the lung itself. This is done by using flexible fiber optics to see inside the air passages and extract sample pieces for study when necessary. Pulmonary function tests, pulse oximetry and chest x-rays can be done at our facility.

RHEUMATOLOGY

Rheumatologists concern themselves with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders involving the joints, bones and other connective tissues. This encompasses a broad range of diseases including arthritis, osteoporosis, gout, lupus, back pain, tendonitis and fibromyalgia. At BVMA our rheumatologists are skilled at comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic evaluation and treatment for adults with acute and chronic rheumatic diseases. The doctors provide diagnostic EMG's and bone densitometry (DEXA) at our facility.
